Affordable Learning initiatives at Fletcher Technical Community College promote and expose open education resources (OER) and low-cost solutions to increase student access to affordable learning materials and support students’ success. Faculty and staff collaboratively work together to maintain high standards of excellence, and a diverse curriculum to provide our students with personalized instruction and service. Through the Affordable Learning LOUISiana initiative, LOUIS partners with libraries and faculty to save students money on education by reducing the costs of instructional materials through the use of eTextbooks, Open Educational Resources (OER), and other open access materials. This also ensures that students have equitable access to course materials on the first day of class.
LOUIS supports affordability initiatives including curriculum driven acquisitions (CDA), analysis of bookstore lists, and adoption of open education resources through technology innovations, administrative support, and professional development for librarians.

The Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) is committed to increasing access to affordable education and training. To this end, the LCTCS designed the 2017-18 e-Learning Innovation Fund RFP to inspire colleges to leverage open education resources (OER) or related eBook technologies to reduce student expense.
Fletcher Technical Community College will partner with LCTCSOnline to create six Open Educational Resources(OER) General Education courses. Fletcher further agrees to freely share these courses with LCTCS and LCTCS member colleges via Canvas Commons. All material created or modified with these funds are to be openly licensed or reside in the public domain.
Fletcher Technical Community College will receive $10,000 for the 2018 - 2019 fiscal year from LCTCSOnline upon delivery of six OER courses made available to all system colleges for free use.
The e-Learning Innovation Funds are only available to LCTCS member colleges. Other entities may participate via partnerships in applications for funding, but can only do so through an eligible college.

These colleges and universities will join 37 other institutions, representing 200 colleges and universities and over 2.6 million students, in taking part in the effort to expand the use of OER at their institutions.
