Students will research a Phlebotomy case in which a phlebotomist was sued. Student will write a short paragraph explaining what happened in this case.

This project will be graded based upon the Outcome Measures expected of an entry level phlebotomist. See the rubric for the 3 Outcome Measures in detail.
Total project is worth 15 points.
Up to 5 points can be earned by describing the measures used to ensure patient safety.

- Discuss/ Highlight what was done incorrectly in your case/lawsuit. How did these practices jeopardize the patient's safety?
Up to 5 points can be earned by incorporating at least one of the following into your case summary:
- Demonstrating understanding of the importance of specimen collection and specimen integrity in the delivery of patient care.
- Describing the legal and ethical importance of proper patient/sample identification.
- Defining the phlebotomist's role in collecting and/or transporting these specimens to the laboratory.
Up to 5 points can be earned by:
- Communicate (verbally and nonverbally) effectively and appropriately in the workplace (with a librarian/library staff member) and with proper grammar/complete sentences on summary submission.
- Interact appropriately and professionally with the ability to discern unprofessional and/or unethical behavior in your selected case.
- Model professional appearance and appropriate behavior.
- Follow written and verbal instructions. (follow all assignment directions and due dates.)
- Discuss policies and protocol designed to avoid medico legal problems.
