Definitions

database: 

  • holds information and makes that information searchable
  • can be organized by a specific topic and/or file type (Netflix - subject is movies and tv shows, file type is video files; IMDB - subject is movie and tv shows, file type is website pages)
  • databases hold sources rather than being a source - you could potentially get all your sources from the same database

popular:

  • written for a general audience
  • examples can include newspapers, magazines, blogs, some books
  • may or may not be edited

scholarly:

  • written by experts for experts
  • examples can include academic journals and books

peer-review:

  • scholarly information that goes through a rigorous editing process by experts in that field
  • examples can include academic journal articles
