Many scholarly articles of some or all of the following sections. Each section serves a different purpose. Don't spend time reading the entire article word for word. Instead, focus on the most important parts.
- Abstract: summary of the article (read word for word)
- Introduction: description of what is being researched and why (read word for word)
- Literature Review: historical information about the topic, what is already established, definitions (scan it)
- Methods: how the research was done (skip it)
- Results: what they found out (scan it)
- Conclusions/Discussion: the implications of the result (read word for word)
- References: who they cited (scan it - you often find more sources to read from this list!)
