(A Student Guide to Writing Good Prompts)
A prompt is what you type or say to an AI (like ChatGPT).
It’s your question, direction, or task — the better your prompt, the better your answer!
Don’t be too general. Tell the AI exactly what you want it to do.
Example:
❌ “Tell me about space.”
✅ “Write 5 fun facts about the planets in our solar system for 4th graders.”
Tell the AI why you need it or how it will be used.
Example:
✅ “Write a short speech about recycling that I can read at the school assembly.”
You can tell the AI to act like a teacher, scientist, or artist to get better answers.
Example:
✅ “Act like a history teacher and explain why the Civil War started.”
Tell the AI how you want the answer to look.
Example:
✅ “Make a list of 5 safety rules for a science lab.”
✅ “Write it like a friendly letter.”
✅ “Use simple words for younger students.”
You can always ask the AI to change its answer.
Try saying:
“Make it shorter.”
“Use easier words.”
“Add an example.”
“Make it sound more formal.”
AI is like a helper — you can guide it step-by-step!
Use strong, important words in your question to help AI focus.
Example:
✅ “Explain photosynthesis in simple terms with an example from nature.”
Good prompts = Great answers!
Be clear, specific, and kind — and always check the answer to make sure it’s correct.
